Fís agsu Fáth

Deich mbliana ó achtaíodh Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (2003) in Éirinn agus an reachtaíocht sin á hathbhreithniú faoi láthair.

Coimisinéirí teanga ó thíortha ar fud an domhain le bheith páirteach san ócáid.

Béim ar ról an stáit agus an phobail maidir le cearta agus dualgais teanga i gcomhthéacs teangacha atá faoi bhrú mar theangacha pobail nó mar theangacha roghnaithe.

Is iad príomhchuspóirí na comhdhála ná deis a chur ar fáil an dea-chleachtas a roinnt, eolas a mhalartú, agus plé a dhéanamh ar na ceachtanna atá foghlamtha i réimse na dteangacha.

Tabharfaidh an chomhdháil seo deis foghlama ó bheartais agus ó chleachtais eile, agus deis staid na Gaeilge sa Ghaeltacht agus ar fud na tíre a mheas i gcomhthéacs idirnáisiúnta.

Cruthófar deis do choimisinéirí teanga as gach cearn den domhan bualadh le chéile chun plé a dhéanamh ar bhunú cumann idirnáisiúnta coimisinéirí teanga.

Tá an Chomhdháil Idirnáisiúnta ar Chearta Teanga arna heagrú ag Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga; Fiontar DCU; agus Uned Ymchwil Iaith, Polisi a Chynllunio, Ollscoil Caerdydd, An Bhreatain Bheag.
Vision and Purpose

Ireland's Official Languages Act (2003) enacted 10 years ago and the legislation is currently under review.

Language commissioners from all over the world to participate.

Emphasis on the role of the state and the community in regard to language rights and obligations in the context of languages that are under threat as community languages or languages of choice.

The sharing of best practice, the exchange of information, and lessons learnt in the area of languages will be core objectives of conference.

The conference will provide an opportunity to learn from policy and practice in other countries and allow the position of Irish, both in the Gaeltacht and throughout the country, to be evaluated in an international context.

The event will allow language commissioners from all over the world to meet to discuss the formation of an international association of language commissioners.

The International Conference on Language Rights is organised by: The Office of An Coimisinéir Teanga; Fiontar DCU; and Language, Policy and Planning Research Unit, Cardiff University, Wales.
