Linn snámha - socrú déanta faoi staidéar

Tá socrú déanta anois idir Chomhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe agus Údarás na Gaeltachta faoin staidéar atá le déanamh ar fhorbairt Linn Snámha poibli i gceantar Chonamara. I measc na n-ábhar atá le réiteach tá an áit is lárnai agus is feiliúnai leis an linn snámha a lonnú inti; an méid daoine a bhainfeadh leas as an linti snámha, costas tógála agus reachtála agus ábhair eile

Beidh an Chomhairle Contae agus an tÚdarás ag cur ar airgid ar fáil leis an staidéar a dhéanamh. Dúirt an Comhairleoir Contae, Seosamh Ó Cuaig, atá ag cur teannamh leis an iarracht go mbeadh an Linn Snámha poibli seo ann go bhfuil roinnt dul chun cinn déanta anois ach nach mbeidh an beart déanta nó go mbeadh an Linti Snámha ann.

Go dti seo, tá roinnt áiteacha luaite le haghaidh an Linti Snámha - Ros Muc, an Teach Dóite agus an Cheathrú Rua, mar shampla. Tá an dream a chuir an moladh chun cinn ar dtús ag iarraidh go mbeadh an linn snámha seo in áit a thabharfadh deis réasúnach taistil do dhaoine as chuile áit i gConamara ar nós Leitir Fraic, Rinn Mhaoile, Carna, Dúiche Sheoigeach agus deisceart Chonamara.

Tá drogall ar Chomhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe - go dtí seo - roimh an linn snámha. Ach, thóg an Chomhairle linn snámha nua i dTuaim le gairid agus tá ceann acu i mBéal Atha na Sluaighe agus a lámh acu freisin san réiteach le linn snámha nua a thorbairt i i mBaile Locha Riach. Tá an pointe ag muintir Chonamara nár féachadh riamh le Linn Snámha poibli a chur ar fáil taobh thiar den Choirib.

Connemara public swimming pool "now on Council agenda" - Ó Cuaig
"Connemara has 5,000 more names on the electoral register than all of County Leitrim, yet not one public swimming pool in the region."

A public swimming pool to serve the people of Connemara is now firmly on the agenda of Galway Co. Council following a meeting held Iast week between members of Údarás na Gaeltachta and the Development Board of Galway County Council, elected Údaras Board member, and County Councillor, Seosamh Ó Cuaig, has told Glór Chonamara. It was decided that a feasability study should be carried out, and advertisments will soon be placed in order to appoint consultants for this process.
The terms of reference for the team of consultants wilI soon be ready, and wilI include such matters the likely location, the cost of the projeot and what the expected usage of such an amenity would be. "A number of County Councillors from other parts of the county were actually surprised to learn that Connemara was without a pool", said Cllr. Ó Cuaig, who pointed out that such an amenity was not only vital for the residents of Connemara, but that in these times of falling tourism figures a public swimming pool would be an enormous boost as a tourist attraction.
Cllr Ó Cuaig also expressed "extreme worry and alarm" at recent suggestions that a "centralised" tourism marketing force should be set up to tackle falling figures in the regions, while Dublin Tourism would be left intact to market the city as a separate region, which is already attracting the bulk of visitors to this country. "It makes no sense at all to centralise efforts to solve regional problems", said Cllr. Ó Cuaig.
