TDS FOR MEETING?

Councillor Seosamh Ó Cuaig has said that all West Galway TDs and Senators should be asked to meeting that is to be held next month about a proposai for a new road from Connemara to Galway.

The National Roads Authority chief, Fred Barry, has agreed to meet Connemara County Councillors about the issue and also the development of the N. 59, the main Clifden to Galway road. However, the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív has said he wilI be at the meeting also.

Councillor Ó Cuaig said this week that ail Dáil and Seanad members should be given the opportunity to be present. "Added to that, I want the meeting to be held here in Connemara," Councillor Ó Cuaig said.

Councillor Ó Cuaig's demands come after a flurry of activity about this meeting with Mr Barry. Ó Cuaig announced at a Galway County Council meeting that Mr Barry had agreed to meet the Connemara Councillor and that he expected further contact from him. The next day, Minister Ó Cuív announced publicly that he (the Minister) had contact with the NRA and that he would be organising the meeting with the Councillors 83 and that he would attend himself.

Councillor Ó Cuaig said he had spoken to Mr Fred Barry during the week and he understood the meeting would be held in early September. "The other TDs in Galway West and Senator Cox can take it now that I would welcome them at the meeting with the NRA Chief Executive," Councillor Ó Cuaig said. "I would also welcome the Director of Road Services from Galway County Council there."
