STUDY ON NEW ROAD

It has now been announccd that Galway County Council has asked the Department of the Environment for money in order to carry out a study of a new road frorn Screebe to Galway city.

Councillor Seosarnh Ó Cuaig said this was a move in the right direction and he stressed that the recent proposai by Connemara councillors should he accepted.

The Connernara Councillors voted unanimously in September that the proposed new road should extend to west Connemara.

They said that a short cut should be developed from the Rosaveal crossroads across towards Camus and that the existing road should then be widened and strengthened as far as Screebe. This would mean that there would be a new top class road from west Connemara to Galway.

"The Councillors asked for the money for the study from Minister Ó Cuív's office," Councillor Ó Cuaig said. "The Council management is now going to the Departrnent of the Environment looking for the money. One way or another,it's time everybody got behind this road and ensured it comes as far as west Connemara.
