CARNA NURSING HOME
Údarás na Gaeltachta has announced grant aid of over ¤l45.000
for the development of assisted living services at the Carna Nursing Home Complex. A training grant
of ¤5.700 will also be paid. The grant aid has been given for the re-development of the old parish
priest's bouse that is close to the Nursing Home. Space will be available for 12 people this
facility that will comprise a building of 2000 square feet according to documents presented to the
Údarás na Gaeltachta Board. In this case they will be people who can live a fairly
independent lifestyle but they can also avail ot the services at the Nursing Home.
The Carna Nursing Home was opened three years ago and it is now full to capacity with over 50
residents receiving care there on a regular basis. The development of the Nursing Home followed
a long community campaign spearheaded by Coiste na nAosach in Carna which included in its membership
the late Commdt Mattie McDonagh, Evelyn Moylan Susan Uí Chatháin, Seosamh Ó
Cuaig Fr Pádraig Audley, Dr Michael Casey, Maire Áine Uí
Mhaoilchiaráin and Máirín Ó Catháin.
The Carna Nursing Home proprietors are Dr Michael Casey and Sally Casey.
