Across the devide
If all the Fianna Fáil Councillors followed the
lead given by Councillore Josie Conneely, there would be better roads in
Connemara. So said Independent Councillor Seosamh Ó Cuaig when he spoke
at Galway County Council meeting.
Ó Cuaig, who is Chairman of the Council's Roads committee said that he noted the big money for roads in the east of the county and people were happy to see that. However, he said that money for roads in Connemara waas small over the years and he now welcomed €1.5m. this year for the planning of the new Connemaara road.
"Of course this road must go into west Connemara as far as Screebe
anyhow," Councillor Ó Cuaig said, "and I note that the man who
could be Taoiseach - Brian Cowan - has assured Minister Frank Fahey that
the money will be there to bring the road west."
In further remarks about the main Galway-Clifden road, Councillor Ó
Cuaig said that the people should be thankful to Councillor Josie
Conneely (Fianna Fáil) for the work he had done. "Sure the money is not
big enough yet on the N59, but fair play to Josie - he was not afraid to
put it up to Ministers Éamon Ó Cuív and Frank Fahey and if his fellow
Fianna Fáil councillors did the same Connemara would come out better."
