CARNA SCHOOL
The Principal of the Carna Community School, Tomás Ó Nídh and the Chairman of the Management
Board, Councillor Seosamh Ó Cuaig met the Minister. for Edjication last Friday to press the case
for a major upgrade of the school building and facilities.
Minister Mary Hannifin was told about the campaign since 1999 for the developments at the
school. It was pointed out to her that an architect's report in 1999 showed that there were
serious shortcomings in the school building and that major upgrading was badly needed.
The campaign, meetings and documentation has continued since and Mr Ó Nídh pointed out that
sub-standard schools were a major drawback to pupils and teachers. The Minister, Mary Hannifin
said she would assess the situation and see where the Carna School is on the order of priorities
in her Department
